Engineer and producer, Alan Emptage, was one of the first in the UK to put the Lauten Horizon through its paces. Alan, who is based at The Premises in London, was at first dubious. He explained that there were now so many condenser mics on the market and that many of them sounded very much alike. However, he was immediately struck by the build quality and so decided to try one on a session.
Alan, who has worked with acts including Eric Clapton, The Blockheads, Sisqo, and OK Go (amongst many others), tried the Horizon on a variety of instruments and vocalists. He was very excited with the results saying “The Horizon is one of the best mics I have ever used for vocals and acoustic guitars”. He went on to say that “when I was recording the vocals, it sounded like I already had a Pultec across it."
The Horizon Tube Microphone is designed to be a workhorse – a multi-purpose microphone that sounds great in the mix and on a large variety of applications. Its sound is full-bodied which many, including Alan, describe as airy highs, thick luscious mids, and a tight, fat bottom-end. This microphone is so versatile it can be used for both studio and live recording with great results.
Alan finished by saying that “there is nothing that can beat the Horizon in its price range” . |
